Description

This cabinet was designed by Danish designer Niels Clausen and produced by NC Møbler (Odense) in the 1960s. It is distinguished by its disciplined proportions and refined detailing. The entire body is constructed in plywood veneered with rosewood, whose deep, even grain emphasizes the material’s inherent richness and sense of solidity. The finely executed surface treatment lends the piece a warm, calm, and balanced visual presence.

The drawer fronts feature one of Niels Clausen’s characteristic design elements: scalloped, half-moon recessed handles. Precisely carved in gentle arcs, these handles create subtle shifts of light and shadow, introducing rhythm to the otherwise restrained, box-like form. This handle language closely relates to the curved, cut-in drawer pulls used by Arne Vodder in contemporaneous cabinet designs, and the two are often compared—reflecting a shared Danish modern concern for tactile experience and nuanced curvature in furniture detailing during this period.

The cabinet is supported by four slender solid rosewood legs, cleanly proportioned to ensure structural stability while maintaining visual lightness. The two-tier drawer configuration provides clear and practical storage, and the overall composition demonstrates Clausen’s mature command of cabinet proportions and craftsmanship.
