PP701 Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1965 in connection with the construction of his own home, the PP701 is one of Wegner’s rare chairs with a steel frame. Conceived specifically as a dining chair, it remains the Wegner family’s dining chair to this day. When it was first presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition, the press described it as “an extremely elegant little chair.”
The PP701 combines tubular steel, solid wood, and an upholstered seat, giving the chair a light and graceful profile. When not in use, it can easily slide under the dining table to save space. Thanks to its distinctive backrest design, the user can lean fully back while still sitting close to the table.
Wegner was meticulous about the welding details of this chair: both manufacturers who produced it over the years used silver soldering at the steel joints, ensuring refined precision at every connection. The tightly integrated solid wood backrest makes the PP701 a work that demonstrates excellence in both woodworking and metal craftsmanship.
