This piece can be regarded as the rocking-chair version of Wegner’s earlier PP129 Web Chair (designed in 1968). In addition to the rockers, the original broad, flat armrests were reworked into slimmer, rounded sections, closer to the profile of the PP240 Conference Armchair. The overall form is derived from the simplicity of American Shaker furniture, yet with notable refinements: the once-wide arms extend forward from the rear legs and taper into round sections that meet the front legs in a smooth, continuous transition. Both the seat and back are hand-woven in flag halyard, forming a mesh that provides comfortable support.
Designed when Wegner was about seventy, this rocker reflects different needs from his younger years. Compared with the J16, its rocking motion is slower and more measured, while the contact with the woven cord is softer than wooden spindles—making it a chair suitable for long, relaxing sitting.
