This two-tier coffee table, model FD519, is part of the Minerva series designed by Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for France & Søn. The series also includes sofas and other table variants; the coffee table is distinguished by its practical two-layer construction featuring a woven cane lower shelf.
As a modular line, Minerva pieces were conceived to mix and match with the series’ seating and side tables. FD519 uses a light, tapered-leg underframe and a softly rounded, polygonal top that adds flexibility for placement and display. The added lower shelf creates a functional two-tier layout. With its teak top and slender conical legs, the table has a refined, lightweight presence emblematic of Danish design from the 1950s–60s.
This nearly square two-tier table is an elegant, distinctive side/coffee table design; an all-teak version (without the cane shelf) also exists.
