The Lamino lounge chair was formally introduced in 1956 by Swedish designer Yngve Ekström and produced by Swedese. It stands as one of the most representative icons of Swedish modern furniture. Its form originates from Ekström’s long-term exploration of the relationship between the human body, curved structures, and everyday comfort, emphasizing a natural and stable connection between furniture and the body.
The chair is constructed from laminated bent beech, with a continuous and gently curved frame that supports the body in a relaxed, reclined posture. The laminated structure provides both strength and flexibility, while also giving the chair a visually light appearance. The seat and back are upholstered in fabric; compared to the more common sheepskin versions, the fabric upholstery presents a cleaner visual expression and is more adaptable to a wider range of interior settings.
The design of the Lamino does not rely on decorative expression, but instead achieves a quiet and enduring character through the balance between wooden curvature, bodily support, and material proportion. Its low and open structure makes it suitable for placement in living rooms, reading corners, or resting areas, offering everyday comfort while maintaining the clarity of material and structure characteristic of Nordic furniture.
Since its introduction in the 1950s, the Lamino has remained in continuous production, reflecting its lasting relevance over time. This example features a laminated beech frame with fabric upholstery, presenting a more understated and soft character suitable for daily use.
