Description

1940 年代初，Charles Eames 和 Ray Eames 夫婦來到洛杉磯展開設計實踐。當時 Charles 曾任職於米高梅製片廠擔任佈景設計師，擅長材料的創新運用，這樣的背景也影響他們在家具設計上的實驗精神。

1945 年，Eames 夫婦成功推出了著名的 DCW（Dining Chair Wood）與 LCW（Lounge Chair Wood）系列——以模壓膠合板為核心材料，開啟了現代家具設計的新篇章。

隨後，他們更進一步嘗試打造一體成形的座面，以更貼合人體曲線為目標。經歷過膠合板與鋁板等材質的多次測試後，最終他們將目光轉向戰後剩餘的軍用材料——玻璃纖維（Fiberglass）。透過與 Herman Miller 和 Zenith Plastics 的合作，於 1950 年開發出全球首批以玻璃纖維為座面材質的量產椅款，其中就包括這張 DAW（Dining Height Armchair Wood Base）。

這張椅子將 Eames 的設計理念具體實現於：貼合人體曲線、材質創新、模組化組裝、以及生產工藝的現代化。

1993 年，出於環保考量，Vitra 停止生產玻璃纖維材質椅款。直到 1999 年與 2004 年間重新復產時，改以更環保且可回收的材質——聚丙烯（Polypropylene） 製作，延續這張椅子的生命。

DAW 擁有極佳的包覆感，椅背角度提供下背良好支撐，座面內層鋪有輕薄軟墊，使觸感更親膚舒適。造型曲線具有高度辨識度，搭配經典原木椅腳與金屬支撐結構，賦予其輕盈雕塑感，也讓這張椅子至今仍深受喜愛。
