Description

This floor lamp was designed by Swedish designer Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) and stands as a representative piece from the iconic Bumling series he created in 1968 during his tenure as artistic director at Ateljé Lyktan.
Before joining Ateljé Lyktan in 1964, Pehrson served as head of design for Philips Sweden. His arrival marked a new era for the company, steering the brand toward a more distinctive and modern visual identity. He was known for integrating color, modular design, and functional lighting concepts—principles embodied in the Bumling series, which became a signature of his design legacy.
Founded in 1934, Ateljé Lyktan is one of Sweden’s oldest lighting manufacturers. The company has long specialized in architectural and public lighting, with fixtures commonly found in schools, libraries, and airports. It has played a major role in shaping the identity of Scandinavian lighting design.
The name "Bumling" means “large rounded stone” in Swedish, alluding to the lamp’s bold, voluminous silhouette. Constructed from metal, the lamp features a streamlined, sculptural profile with a rich brass-toned surface, naturally aged with oxidation, lending it a textured patina and a sense of material depth. The interior is equipped with a diffuser ring that softens the light, offering warm, even illumination—combining both function and visual harmony.
This series blends industrial aesthetics with the Nordic tradition of diffused, gentle lighting, striking a balance between modernity and atmosphere. Its clean lines and elongated proportions make it ideal for living rooms, reading nooks, or architectural interiors where both form and function are appreciated.
While Ateljé Lyktan continues to produce pendant versions of the Bumling series, the floor lamp model has long been discontinued, making vintage pieces like this increasingly rare and highly collectible.
