Designed by interior architects Rolf Rastad (1916–1995) and Adolf Relling (1913–2006), who founded the studio Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor in Oslo in 1943. The studio employed graduates from the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Norway, becoming an important incubator for postwar furniture designers. With series such as Bambi, Futurum, Crossed, and Cycle, Rastad & Relling played a central role in shaping Norwegian furniture design in the post–World War II era.
They collaborated with several major Norwegian manufacturers, including Gustav Bahus, Skaarup, Vatne Møbler, and Westnofa, and also designed interiors for hotels, airports, and office spaces.
The Bambi armchair was produced by Gustav Bahus, a leading Norwegian furniture manufacturer. The chair is renowned for its slender teak frame and refined joinery, making it one of the outstanding works of mid-century modern design. The gently curved backrest and elongated legs reflect the designers’ sculptural sensibility and ergonomic precision, while the leather seat provides durability and a sophisticated material contrast. Its light proportions and flowing lines embody craftsmanship, material authenticity, and timeless functionality.
In addition to dining and armchair versions, the Bambi series also included lounge chairs. Some models are currently being reissued by the Norwegian furniture brand Fjordfiesta.
