Description

This Superellipse stainless steel Super Egg is also known as a “stress egg.” Its gentle curves combined with the cool surface of metal make it an object suited for tactile interaction and relaxation. It was designed by the Danish designer Piet Hein.

Piet Hein (1905–1996) was an internationally renowned Danish artist, designer, mathematician, and poet, widely known for his “Grooks” (short aphoristic poems). In 1959, he designed the Superellipse form for the roundabout at Sergels Torg in central Stockholm. He later applied the Superellipse to a wide range of designs, including trays, plates, and tables. One of the most notable developments was the three-dimensional “Super Egg,” created by rotating the Superellipse around its long axis. Its distinctive property is that it can stand upright on a flat surface without tipping, giving rise to its unique sculptural form.
