This piece originates from the former collection of Richard Nissen .
Jens Quistgaard began collaborating with the ceramic manufacturer Kronjyden in 1957. Founded in 1937, Kronjyden specialized in decorated ceramics and stoneware. In 1953, Hans Nissen, owner of the Nissen woodworks, acquired shares in Kronjyden. In 1957, his son Richard Nissen initiated the collaboration with Quistgaard, which explains why some tableware pieces bear marks reading either “Kronjyden” or “Kronjyden + Nissen” on the base.
During the early years of this partnership, Quistgaard designed the Flamestone and Relief dinnerware series for Kronjyden. In the 1960s, he continued with additional lines including Azur, Rune, and Cordial, all of which achieved considerable commercial success. At the time, approximately 75% of Kronjyden’s sales were within the domestic market, while the remaining 25% were exported to Norway, the United Kingdom, and Germany. In 1972, Kronjyden was acquired by Bing & Grøndahl.
