Description

Panton椅由Verner Panton設計，這張造型如人體曲線性感的懸臂式結構塑膠椅，一推出就獲得眾人的矚目，被公認為現代家具設計的經典之作，最早的模型之一收藏於紐約現代藝術博物館MoMA。

Panton椅設計於1959年，但這張塑料有機形狀的單椅，在製作上一直無法實現，直到60年代Panton帶著試作原型椅拜訪Vitra，與第一代創辦人Willi Fehlbaum和第二代總裁Rolf Fehlbaum討論，才終於在1967年出現了玻璃纖維強化的聚酯塑料（Polyester）的版本。

但當時塑膠還是相當新穎的材料，除了聚酯塑料（Polyester）也嘗試過因為聚氨酯（Polyurethane）及聚苯乙烯（Polystyrene）等成分的塑膠，但它們都會隨著時間而斷裂損壞，Vitra 不得不在70年代末宣告停產這件作品。Panton在停產後仍持續尋找可能的生產材料，80年代發表使用硬質聚氨酯泡沫塑料（Rigid polyurethane foam）的 版本，Vitra將它命名為Panton Chair Classic。

目前生產的Panton Chair，是1999年Vitra以聚丙烯Polypropylene射出成型製造，重量輕、耐重壓、環保無毒，並且抗UV，而且成本降低，讓Panton Chair成為大家都負擔的起的一款經典椅。
