Description

The PH 2/1 Stem Fitting, also known as the PH 2/1 Stammekrone, is a pendant lamp composed of three sets of PH three-shade lamps. Its design is based on the PH three-shade system developed by Poul Henningsen between 1925 and 1926, while the current version was introduced by Louis Poulsen in 2003. The actual production date of this particular example would need to be confirmed through its label, serial number or original purchase documentation.

The designation “PH 2/1” refers to the combination of shade sizes. Each light uses an upper shade measuring approximately 20 centimetres in diameter from the size 2 series, combined with smaller middle and lower shades from the 1/1 series. This hybrid arrangement allows the lamp to maintain compact proportions when suspended at a relatively low height while still providing effective glare control.

The shades are made of three layers of mouth-blown opal glass, with a glossy exterior and a white sandblasted matte interior. The layered glass shades direct most of the light downwards while allowing some light to pass through the glass, creating soft and even ambient illumination while reducing direct glare and harsh shadows.

The central stem and arms are made of high-lustre chrome-plated brass, while the lamp-holder housings are made of chrome-plated spun aluminium. Three white glass shade assemblies are evenly arranged around the central structure, combining a refined metal framework with soft, diffused light. The pendant is particularly suitable for use above a dining table, in a living room or in other spaces requiring focused illumination.
